Model Art Festival by Franco Wang

Model Art Festival is an annual event organised by Wanhua Theatre Company consisting of theatre, painting, and photo sessions. BDSM.TW was invited to model for the photo session on 16th October — the first 3 hours of a 6-hour photo marathon.

We were happy to have an renowned photographer,Franco Wang, taking photos of us that day. He is always able to catch the magical moments such that his photos appear to be telling stories. Shown below are only part of the photos, of me and Nancy. More photos to displayed on BDSM.TW.

Meeting Ms. Ying-chuan Wei

“I’ve got to leave soon, but let’s have some coffee and chat a bit some time!” When Ms. Ying-chuan Wei, a pioneer of the little theatre movement in Taiwan, said so after seeing our performance in Taipei Fringe Festival, I thought she was just being polite. Thus I was really surprised when I received her invitation several days later. “We theatre people keep our words!” said Nancy.

Besides the Fringe Festival, Ms. Wei also visited us in the Model Art Festival to take our photos, and attended our Halloween event where we performed with Bluevelvets and Sonic Deadhorse . “Like a flower blooming”, so she described how she sees tsuri. Indeed, the tension gradually built during the trying process and reaching its climax at the moment of “blooming” is, to me, the most fascinating thing to watch in a shibari show. Right on spot, Wei also raised the key question, “but then what? How do you make the untying equally full of surprises?” That is indeed a challenge for all performers.

Rope Magic — Blooming

Photos taken on January 22, 2011.

The shibari photography site Rope Magic was established by Suzuki Reiji in 2003, which happened to be the year I moved to Japan. During the days when most shibari photos tend to imitate the dark theme from early SM magazines, the bright, elegant style of Suzuki stood out and became famous within the shibari circle.

In 2009 before we left Japan, we volunteered to be his model, and Suzuki san kindly agreed. Unfortunately we never managed to arrange the time, and had to wait until January 2011 when we went to Japan to perform in Toubaku to find the one day when we were all free. Suzuki efficiently did the shibari as well as the photo shooting all by himself.

Suzuki developed his own unique style of shibari. For more photos of Akari, see the gallery Blooming on Rope Magic.

Toubaku 2011: A Report

Chinese version of this article was completed in February this year and posted to BDSM Taiwan. The English version came 9 months late!

After a successful Toubaku (winter bondage) in 2010, the organisers, Hajime Kinoko and his Ichinawa Kai, expanded the show to an international event. In addition to the six performers abroad: Charm (Canada), Esinem and Murakawa (UK), Osada Steve (Germany), Midori (US), and me (Taiwan), there are also twelve Japanese performers: Hajime Kinoko himself, Aotsuki Nagare, Kazami Ranki, Naka Akira, and members of Ichinawa Kai: Otonawa, Umitsuki Kurage, Ero Ouji, Shigonawa Bingo, Shigore, Shishiwaka, Horai Kasumi, and Yoi. Besides, a number of shibari lovers also performed in the “New Year Kinbaku Pride Competition”. Kanda Tsubaki, an renowned writer, and Saotome Hiromi, famous SM actress, acted as Masters of Ceremony. Performances are held in parallel sessions in the second and fourth floor of club axxcis, a four-floor building in Shibuya. The third floor is reserved for food and drink, where Shima Shikou also offers live shibari trials for those who want to be tied up. There is also a mini-exhibition where original SM/tattoo paintings of Ozuma Yoko and photography of Sugiura Norio are displayed and put on sale, next to booths selling various SM-related books, ropes, and DVDs. A “Special Talk Show” was organised on the second day, hosted by Kanda Tsubaki, where we talked about shibari in our own countries, attracted quite a number of journalists. There are around 70 staffs involved. I do not know whether it is the largest shibari event Japan has ever seen, but it is undoubtedly quite remarkable.

Meeting mond from Berlin

July 17, 2007. by Shin

In middle of July, we received an email from mond, visiting Taipei from Berlin, Germany. She is only 23 years old, but she has been organising many events for SMJG in Berlin.

We met up in Xin-Yi area, close to the 101 building and Warner Village. It was not difficult to recognise her: the tall girl in tight black corsets and high-heels got everyone’s attention on the street! We went to a pub for a drink, and she told us a lot about the scene in Germany. SMJG, in which a 27 year-old member would be be considered old, sounds like a very active SM community in Germany.

mond is very friendly, talkative, and fun to be with. We talked about how differently people in Germany, Taiwan, and Japan run their local SM scenes, and yet these scenes still share something, good and bad, in common. Apparently she was very bored in Taipei, and unfortunately we could not organise a munch when she was in Taiwan. Still, she said she likes the city a lot and would like to visit again.

She promised to give me more information about BDSM in Germany. Let us wait and see!

A Long Waited Update

April 10, 2007. by Shin

It has been 3 months since this site was updated last time! Many friends of us enquired what happened (a big thank you to all of you!). In fact, we were just terribly busy for the past few months, and all SM related events have always been the third item on my “to-do” list while the first two items were never finishing. Finally having finished a major event of the year last week, here are some tsuri photos we took in April but never got time to process and put online..

Akane on SM Sniper

April 8, 2007. by Shin and Akane

After the last performance of Nawatsuya 2006, the performaners, staffs, and nawashi Kazami Ranki, who came to Taiwan particularly for the show, headed off to a pub in Taipei to celebrate. Four months later in April, we received a copy of S&M Sniper, a prestige S & M magazine in Japan, with Kazami san’s photos and diary of that evening.

Dec. 3 (Sun)- 5 (Tue)

I visited Taiwan with the members of SM circle “Peak” since Mr. Mira Kurumi & Ms. Kano Chiaki would do a kinbaku performance there. It was like a sightseeing tour for me all the way from Narita Airport to the hotel in Taipei. :)

We arrived at the venue to find it was a Taipei city-owned establishment. Kind of like Osaka City Gymnasium? :) Their SM performances were wonderful as always. Then we were invited to the after-party held by BDSM Taiwan. Around midnight, surprisingly and luckily, the organizer “Akane(ko)” (Akane: Oh, I was not, I was just a messenger or interpreter.) told me that some girls wanted to be tied, asking me if I could do that. Of course, I could not miss such a rare chance to tie Taiwan girls! I fully tied and suspended them until I felt enough and enough..

“I am happy to be tied. This was my first time and I was so excited,” one of the girls, who was a bit shy, said, according to Akane(ko)-chan’s interpretation. Through interpreting, the girl said, “I feel so thrilled that I am almost in love with you!” Not speaking Chinese, however, all I could say was just “Xie, xie (thank you)”..What a pity! :( (Shin: Well.. it seemed that Akane’s euphemism caused some interesting bypassing…) Next I tied a model-like beauty and lastly suspended Akaneko-chan. She is a Japanese married to a Taiwanese guy. We were happy to have her there. Next day we did some sightseeing in Taipei and came back to Japan safe and sound. I would like to visit there again if I have another chance. The food was also good; I’d highly recommend it.

Dangerous!

March 14. by Shin

We mentioned in our article about the White Day that there was an accident. Here are the details.

The plan was to take a photo like this.

I planned to take some photos acting hanging. I would wrap the rope on Akane’s neck, and ask her to stand on her toes. I used to believe that as long as any part of her body was touching the ground, she would be able to shift the weight and it would be safe.

So I wrapped the rope on her neck and said to her “Tell me if you feel anything uncomfortable” before pulling the rope and making her standing on her toes. Then I fastened the rope using the standard procedure. It shouldn’t have taken more than 20 seconds before I fastened the rope.

Then I noticed that Akane was not able to stand!

In panic, I tried to release her as quick as possible. She came back to conscience after trembling for several seconds, coughing. She said the last thing she remembered was when I said “Tell me if you feel anything uncomfortable.” The next thing she know, she was lying on the floor already. Later she recalled that she did saw all her memory flying before her eyes. It was merely several tens of seconds for me, but she felt it was quite long.

We were both quite shocked. Although she was on the noose for several seconds only, that was intense enough to leave a red mark, which stayed on her neck for about a week.

Perhaps it was not possible for people to stand on the toes for too long, unless there were some other supports. When she was not able to support her body on her toes anymore, the weight just fell on the neck and cut her oxygen supply.

At any rate, tying the neck is extremely dangerous. We were lucky this time. I would advice you never attempt to try it at all!

Losing a Tooth

It was not as bad as this picture looks. Perhaps part of the tooth broke when being pulled.

April 2, 2007 by Shin

I’ve been telling myself this long list of things I will do once I settle down. Top on the list is to see a dentist. However, a year passed, and I still don’t feel settled down. My tooth cannot wait for me.

The evening of April 1st, my tooth suddenly ached so much that I could not sleep. I visited a nearby dentist the next day and was told that it had decayed very badly and, it being a wisdom tooth, we cannot do a root canal and had no option but having it pulled.

Although it’s merely pulling a tooth, I felt rather upset as if part of my body is amputated due to my own fault. Akane, who has healthy teeth and has never seen a pulled tooth before, examined it curiously.

By the way, tooth pulling is such a scary thing to do. I wonder how the dentists were trained to do it.

Birthday Party for Wuxian and Kaede

March 24, 2007

Invited to the birthday party for Wuxian, Kaede, and two other friends.

(The above is written by MM Shin.)
Akane adds:
The birthday party turned to be a “shibari” session … as usual.

Kaede, the little tied girl, is Ho-sue’s girl. She had her birthday on the previous day. How old is she? Very young. Too young. She is almost half as old as I. Oh, my god.

Well, Ho-sue, you would (or should) be sent to a prison.
Minor or major, that is a question.
